Sports Massage
What is a Sports Massage?
Sports massage can be highly beneficial to help improve joint range of movement, ease aches and pains as well as helping you recover from activity. Sports massage can be a perfect complement alongside your Osteopathic treatment. It is a form of deep tissue massage that helps repair micro tears in muscles that we receive either from sporting activity or prolonged postures such as sitting at a desk or continually lifting heavy objects. Massage can help repair these tears by improving localised blood flow.
Despite the name you do not need to have taken part in a sporting activity before receiving a sports massage it can also be beneficial to ease muscles that are sore from overuse or an old injury.
Each massage is tailored to an individual so if strong massage is not your thing then the practitioner is able to alter the pressure so that it is still effective but comfortable for you.
When do I need a Sports Massage?
Sports massage is a good way of easing tightness in muscles and tendons, especially after prolonged use however most complaints need a prior diagnosis. If you have just developed a problem it is best to receive a diagnosis from an Osteopath or other primary healthcare practitioner such as your GP first to ensure there isn’t another underlying cause to your problem.
